Masibulele” (an isiXhosa word meaning ‘thank you’) opened its doors in 1995 by Ms. Thandi Xaba. Ms. Thandi chose the name “Masibulele” because she wanted to thank the families who trusted their children with her. Our school remains grateful.
In 2015, handed over the reins as principal to her daughter, Nwabisa, who is our current principal. Ms. Nwabisa leads our school with a continued sense of love, hope, care and development.
Let's Build Masibulele
With the help of our partners, we transformed our school from being structurally unsafe into a school that can hold strong for future generations to come.
Watch our video to see our transformation.
Masibulele is located in the informal settlement of Khayelitsha. Just 32km from
Cape Town’s CBD, our neighbourhood is home to over 1 million people who often live in shacks and improper dwellings. Overcrowding and inadequate facilities often mean that minimal access is given at clinics and schools.
Masibulele offers kids a safe haven from the harsh environment that lies beyond the school walls.
